What Are My Dreams Telling Me?

When I went to bed last night, my dreams were filled with forgotten faces and old stories. I woke up feeling thrown off balance. It all started a few days ago when I came across Carl Jung’s quote that really resonated with me: “ I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become.” I thought it would be a good topic to write about. So, I dove in and read many articles about how to let go of past emotions and move forward. I read the expert advice of psychologists, healers, and life coaches. Their words helped me to realize that I still had a lot of processing to do when it came to my own past. After a fitful night of dreaming, I woke up with some new perspective. I began to think about forgiveness and moving forward.

Don’t Relive-Forgive

I’ve often heard some version of the philosophy that forgiving someone doesn’t mean you have to agree with what they did or said. The forgiveness process may mean that a person will no longer be part of your life. But sometimes doesn’t it feel better to feel right? And sometimes doesn’t it feel good to replay the incident in your head where you cast yourself as the victim and feel righteously angry?  But does it really? When we truly forgive, we feel a deep release inside ourselves.  Forgiving allows us to live gratefully in the present moment. When we are in a place of reliving, and not forgiving, we are not making space for new experiences and hopefully better future relationships.

Let Happiness Flow !

I often remind myself of the following quote generally attributed to Buddha. “The mind is everything. What you think, you become.” When your attention and energy are focused on what you don’t want in your life, you won’t be able attract the kind of experiences that you want and need into your life.  In fact, you might even be attracting more of what you don’t want. Forgiving allows you to shift your outlook in a positive direction. Instead of bringing up old grievances, you can start imagining the new positive, supportive, and amazing boss, friend, or partner that you want to attract. Close your eyes for a moment and see it happening. Don’t you feel lighter and happier imagining a new positive force in your life? Forgiveness is truly a gift to yourself. Let your happiness flow!
